COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
Spring 2025
WWI ravaged the world, taking the lives of millions and traumatizing young women and men who served as nurses and soldiers. When the war ends and the celebration begins, how do they cope with the immense suffering and stress they endured? The 1920s became an era of extravagance, luxury, and leisure that resulted from the post-war rebellion by the youth who searched for an escape from the memories.
We explore the Red Cross nurses’ uniforms and color palettes, the greatcoats and military tailoring of the war period, and the cut and construction of the rebellious and risque 1920s styles to develop a design language capable of telling this complex story.
I highlight my sketchbook, sketches, and garments I completed for my portion of the project, which was done by myself and two partners.
